I've been to the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary before and I really enjoyed it, though our field trip was more eventful than my previous visit.  I went just 2 or 3 weeks before the semester started, so I was able to really see what Dr. Morris was talking about when he mentioned the dry season.  Just a few weeks earlier, the tiny puddle with alligators was at least 30 feet in diameter.  I'd like to go back now that it's started to rain again and see how much water there is.

I always thought it would be really cool to have a huge vegetable/fruit garden that I could walk through and eat as I pleased, so I was really excited to see the food forest.  The actual food forest wasn't quite up to par with what I imagined as a child, but it was certainly more functional than anything I could ever design.  I think I that I would be willing to some sacrifice functionality/efficiency in order to give the garden a better visual appeal, but  that's beyond my skill level at this point.

On the first day of class Dr. Morris mentioned that young people don't seem to care about the environment.  This came as a surprise to me, because I always thought that the young people were the ones who cared.  After interacting with other students, I'm starting to believe that statement.  I guess it will be easier for them to care as an independent adult with real bills to pay.  I think it's unfortunate that people only care about money, but at least they care about something.
